Husqvarna’s Guy Giroux Wins Big at Canadian Enduro Championship

September 14, 2010 – Montreal, QC – FP Husqvarna / Zip-Ty Racing Canada’s Guy Giroux put his Husqvarna WR 300 on the top step of the podium in the E3 class at both Rounds 5 and 6 of the Canadian Enduro Championship.  Giroux’s E3 win at Round 5 became even more satisfying for the seasoned Pro from Quebec when it was confirmed that he had taken the overall Pro Class win for the day at the Parry Sound, Ontario event.

Guy was able to follow up this amazing performance against Canada’s best off-road racers at Round 5 by again claiming victory in E3 the following day at Round 6. Giroux finished 2nd overall for the day amongst the three Pro classes (E1, E2 & E3) and narrowly missed the overall win for the weekend behind Alberta’s smoking fast Jason Schrage.

GUY GIROUXWith Husqvarna Canada’s Marty Halmazna facing some unexpected challenges that forced him to miss the Eastern rounds, Giroux stepped up to fill the void in E3 and ensure that Husqvarna would be represented in all three Pro classes.

“I had a tough time at the Western rounds this year” said Giroux. “It was great to win E3 on the 300 two stroke but I was really pumped to pull off the overall win against all the young guns. I have accomplished a lot in my career, but because we have never had a true coast to coast National series, all the Championships that I have earned before always seemed a little bitter sweet. There has always been that question of who is the fastest; the East or the West riders. I have waited almost 30 years for this win because on this day I finally beat them all and no one can argue it.

The only thing that was missing was Bobby (Prochnau). It’s too bad that he is hurt but Jason (Schrage) is flying this year and it feels awesome to get the win. It was cool to win E3 again on Sunday but I wanted the overall win for the weekend really bad and it was frustrating to miss it by such a close margin. I think maybe I rode a little too conservative trying to avoid any mistakes but Jason was on it and deserves the win. The guy obviously trains hard and has done an awesome job of adjusting to the deep sand and our Eastern terrain.

I can’t wait for the last rounds on my home turf in Quebec and for sure I will be chasing the overall. It would be great to finish off the year with another win”

NICK GRAFFUNDERIn the E1 class, Husqvarna Canada’s Nick Graffunder rallied his way to 4th position at both of the Parry Sound rounds. Graffunder hammered his way through the sand and slippery mud on his TC 250 to post his best finishes of the series. Nick now sits in 5th position overall in E1 as series moves to Quebec for the final two rounds

In the E2 Class, FP Husqvarna’s Ryan Graffunder struggled with the slimy mud and power robbing sand that was served up by the Parry Sound course. Graffunder earned impressive results at the Western rounds that saw him sitting 2nd in points in the E2 class and 3rd overall in the Pro Class coming into the Eastern rounds.

Day 1 finished with Ryan sitting 6th in E2 and maintaining a top 10 overall but the heavy rains on Saturday night and the mud infested race course that he faced on Day 2 left the young Pro from Vavenby, British Columbia fighting his way through the special tests and losing a couple of positions over Day 1 to finish 8th in E2.

RYAN GRAFFUNDERAlthough disappointed with his Parry Sound results, Graffunder still maintains 4th position in the Championship in E2 and 5th overall Pro. Ryan is fired up for the closing rounds in Quebec this weekend and hopes to gain some positions and secure a top three in the E2 Championship.

The new Husqvarna Canada team has now earned 7 Pro Class podiums in the 2010 Canadian Enduro Championship series as well as over a dozen podiums in Regional races across the country. This success has allowed the FP Husky crew to put the entire line-up of Husqvarna off-road race bikes available to the Canadian market on the podium in stock trim with the exception of bolt-on accessories. These models include the 125, 144, 250 and 300 two strokes as well as the 250, 450 and 510 four strokes.
