The Guy Giroux FMSQ round 9 report

Well this report is gonna be a short one…    Cause i’m running out of time!!!!    The dealer meeting is thursday, Bartoz lands on wednesday , i have to be on the morning show thursday 6 am, then Friday meeting and practice, then saturday Race….  Maybe go out after if i rode good……

So anyway i have a bunch of stuff to do today!!!

Last week end was round 9 at Mecaglisse wich is 1hrs up north from montreal, the track is really sandy, with some rally roads and quad trails and almost no singletrack. We got there around 6pm on saturday, because karine had some school, and i was out training for the SX on my TC 250, as soon as we arrived we got on our mountain bikes and went to scope some magic lines, it was a nice ride and riding with lights is always different!  There was no magic line as the trail was really wide with nothing technical in it…

Sunday came and it was pretty overcast , and cold . Karine went to the line feeling confident , she got a good start but then got passed in the soft sand section??? first lap she came back in 3rd, next lap in 4th,  i could see she was feeling it….  next lap 5th, she then got on it , catched 4th, passed her but on the last lap she ran out of fuel and had to put it on reserve to finish, but it took the fuel a while to get in the carb… and lost another minute….   She finished the race in 5th, and royally pissed at everything…. From lappers to soft sand to back pain, to me because she ran out of fuel…. etc etc…

When it was my time, got my best start of the season on that 300 and rounded out the first corner in 3rd… Went to work right there and after a few corner i was first and pulling away. The trail was so destroyed i was understanting more why Karine was so tired, sand whoops are cool , but giant square edge everywhere are not… so i tried to set a slower pace to save some energy,  Allowing Phil to catch me, I pulled away after 45min when the arm pump went away, and was on my way to a 2 min lead at refuel when i ran out of fuel too…i was still moving when i put the reserve on but the bike stalled anyway….  i put it on the ground to fill the carb quicker, and started kicking…. Phil passed me and i was still kicking…It finally came back to life andi was out 40 sec behind Phil, we refuelled and i went back to work reelling 20 sec a lap on him , i put the pass on him in the fastest section of the track and used the power of the 300 to pull away in the soft sand. At the end i had 1:30min lead on second. But i was really tired! those sqare edge took a real beating on me…

Anyway we loaded quickly, drove back home and since then it’s a mad rush to the week end…..

Hopefully i can repeat last year EX race saturday night at  le stade olympique de montreal!

Until then have fun,
